JENNIFER  A. MILLER, PSY.D.

Dr. Jennifer Miller earned her Masters and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego and her B.A. in Developmental Psychology from UC Santa Barbara. 

 

Before becoming licensed as a psychologist, Dr. Miller served on staff at Rady Children's Hospital's

world-renowned Chadwick Center for Children and Families.  Her experience at Rady's led her to specialize in Trauma-Sensitive and Trauma-Informed Treatment, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, General Stress Disorders, and Depressive and Anxiety Disorders.  She is specially trained in trauma and is competent in treating clients of all ages suffering from depressive and anxiety disorders, trauma (remote/recent), life transitions, and individuals and families dealing with the disease of addiction.

Dr. Miller's experience working with military families, active duty, reservists, and retired or disabled Veteran service members is extensive.  Her training includes specialized treatments for veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Moral Iinjury, chronic pain, deployment/reentry stress, and transitioning into retirement.

Dr. Miller's style is collaborative--working with clients to assess their needs and goals. Her therapeutic style is rooted in Humanistic Psychology, Person-Centered, Trauma-Focused and Psychodynamic theory. Her practice.  Dr. Miller's style is further influenced by mindfulness-based interventions, Eastern psychology, and other holistic approaches to mental health care. Dr. Miller provides trauma-sensitive and gender-affirming treatment, creating a safe space where trust can develop, allowing all stories to be heard and appreciated.  Dr. Miller recognizes the importance of addressing diversity, equity, and belonging, and supports these values and efforts to uphold them.

Dr. Miller's true passion is sharing the benefits of mindfulness training. Her mindfulness training began as a participant in an 8-week MBSR course at UC San Diego. This course led to a journey of mindfulness training and eventually becoming a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher. Dr. Miller teaches mindfulness for several departments at UC San Diego: Center for Mindfulness, Zeidan Pain and Health Lab, and Psychedelic Research and Health Institute.  Dr. Miller has facilitated over 30 8-week MBSR courses. Dr. Miller is also qualified to teach Mindful Self-Compassion, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, and Mindful Preparation and Integration with Psychedelic Interventions.

 

On a personal note, Dr. Miller loves to learn--reading, listening to books and talks, and browsing the internet for inspiration.  She also finds immense value in slowing down, meditating daily, napping, and practicing gratitude.  She especially likes spending time at home with her husband and children, her pets Goose (d), Duckie (d), Bubbs (c) & Luna (c), or with a good book.
